IPNEX

For AI assistants and agents

Use IPNEX from your AI assistant

IPNEX does not just answer people. It provides a live connection built for AI tools (the Model Context Protocol, MCP) and a plain web API, so an AI assistant can pull the same answers you see on this site, cited and ready to use: who owns a university patent now, whether it is still in force, and how many years of exclusive term remain.

What your assistant gets

Every answer is the same as on the pages here: joined from the original listing to the public patent record, cited to its source and reliability-rated, and honest about what is not known (an unresolved value is marked unknown, never guessed). No sign-up is needed to try it; anonymous use is rate-limited.

Connect over MCP

Point any MCP-capable assistant at the IPNEX endpoint below. It is listed on the official MCP registry, so many AI tools can discover it directly. Two tools are offered: search_licensable_ip (what currently-licensable US university IP matches a need) and get_technology (the full picture for one technology).

api.ipnex.ai/mcp

Or call the web API

Prefer a plain HTTP call? The same data is a GET away, cited in the response. For example, currently-active licensable IP at a given institution:

GET api.ipnex.ai/search?status=Active&institution=Stanford

The full, self-describing service descriptor (every endpoint and an example) lives at api.ipnex.ai/api.

A reminder of what IPNEX is: information to support diligence, not legal advice. Confirm anything that matters against the primary record.
